BS8599 Workplace First Aid Kits

Please use this information as a guide only. Some workplaces may require more kits and or additional first aid equipment depending on the layout i.e. sites with several separate buildings, shift work, remoteness from the emergency services and other special circumstances.
This standard became effective on 30.07.11 but BS-8599 completely replaces the BTA-HSE 10, 20 and 50 kits from 31.12.11. However the HSE will not be making the new BS8599 First Aid Kit mandatory.

Category of hazard - Low hazard: eg. shops, offices, libraries, etc.

Number of employees: Less than 25.
Kit size and number: 1 small kit.
Number of employees: 25-100.
Kit size and number: 1 medium kit.
Number of employees: More than 100.
Kit size and number: 1 large kit per 100 employees.

Category of hazard - High hazard: e.g. assembly work, light engineering, warehousing, food processing, work with dangerous machinery or sharp objects, chemical manufacture, construction, etc.

Number of employees: Less than 5.
Kit size and number: 1 small kit.
Number of employees: 5-25.
Kit size and number: 1 medium kit.
Number of employees: More than 25.
Kit size and number: 1 large kit per 25 employees.
